Welcome to the Urban Ring
The Urban Ring is a proposed system of public transit improvements that is designed to connect the spokes of the Boston metropolitan area transit system, improving transit access and mobility for people in the corridor and throughout the region.
The Urban Ring would link travel origins and destinations within a circumferential corridor, or “ring," ranging from one to two miles around downtown Boston. The Urban Ring corridor passes through parts of Boston, Chelsea, Everett, Medford, Somerville, Cambridge and Brookline. The corridor includes many of greater Boston’s fastest growing areas.
The project team has developed new potential routing options, or variants, based on previous technical analysis, suggestions from the Citizen’s Advisory Committee (CAC), and input from local municipal officials, neighborhood groups and members of the public. More than 50 variants have been considered, yielding four preliminary build alternatives. These alternatives may be viewed by selected the "Study Basics" menu at left and choosing "Urban Ring Facts."
